June first was a beautiful sunny day in Prince William County and was the beginning of a full and rewarding day for our Candidate, Luke Torian!

Luke and U.S. Congressman Robert C. “Bobby” Scott, who is a member of the Education Committee, met with Dr. Sam Hill, the Provost at Northern Virginia Community College, Woodbridge Campus to discuss educational issues that would not only impact the 52nd District and Prince William County, but the entire Commonwealth.

Dr. Hill presented information on NVCC’s

Programs that support economic development and enhance the quality of life.  Established programs such as the Information Technology and HVAC Programs will help Prince William County to    become a leader in these industries.  New programs such as Facilities Maintenance Technology,    Plumbing, Smart Building Maintenance Technology, Forensics and National Security will all serve to increase economic development within the      Commonwealth.

Dr. Hill shared the Campus Master Plan and Capital Projects with Luke and Congressman Scott and of particular note was the Workforce Development Center, a 55,000 square foot facility designed to work with the County to support and attract businesses to the area.  The General         Assembly has already approved $250,000 in      planning funds for this facility.

Dr. Hill also informed Luke and Congressman Scott of the formation of the Alliance which came about because of a nine month community dialog project initiated by NVCC’s Woodbridge Campus.  The Alliance focuses on the exploration of business opportunities and the workforce   impact brought about by the BRAC expansions at Fort Belvoir and Quantico.
